About the club...
Chingford Athletic Football Club was formed as recently as the summer of 2007 and we currently compete in the Ilford & District Premier Division following last season's promotion. We were brought together from a few local teams and once we had our place in the league for the 2007/2008 season assured, we were looking forward to building a long and illustrious history for the club. Now, after a comfortable mid-table finish in our first season, and two cup semi-final appearances and promotion in our second season, the club are looking to push forward on all fronts.
One of the main signs of this is that the upcoming 2009/2010 season will see Chingford field two men's teams, both in the Ilford & District League. To do this we have signed 33 players so the new season looks to be as busy as ever before for all involved.
Our second season was an improvement on the first and promotion was well deserved, but fell agonisingly short of collecting any silverware. This season we hope to go one better, and with everyone's hard work and support, there is no reason why this can't be achieved.

Trelawny 1 - 8 Chingford Athletic Premier Div Athetic got back to winning ways in style this week as they comfortably over-run bottom of the table Trelawny. It what was a potential banana-skin in their chase for 2nd spot in the league, and turning up for the game with no subs, there was rightly no complacency shown by Chingford. Dominating the game from the first whistle it always looked a question of 'how many' instead of if Chingford would actually win, but it took 20 minutes for them to find the opener. A fine ball from Abilio, the first of 4 assists from the midfielder, found striker Collins who cooly finished just inside the area. Once Chingford forced their way ahead they managed to control the game and kept possession a lot better with several good passing moves ending in near misses. The visitors did manage to extend their lead just after the half hour mark through Bowers' fine volley on the edge of the area, and the lead was made three when William ran onto another Abilio throughball and slotted it past the keeper. The second half continued in much the same manner with Athletic dominating and creating chances for fun and it wasn't long before the scoreboard changed again. This time new boy Simmons got in on the act and swiftly collected his second goal, as did Collins throughout an eventful second half. Trelawny did manage a consolation goal just as they were trailing 4-0 but this didn't stop Chingford surging forward in search of more goals. The score was 6-1 and there was still enough time for Thompson to get his name on the scoresheet for the third game running, and Bowers headed the eighth with the final touch of the match to grab his second of the game. Overall it was a very comfortbale but very accomplished performance from everyone of the Chingford players and it was just what they needed a few recent cup defeats. Oh, and James Morley was in goal somewere and made 1 save which wasn't too shabby. Not man of the match stuff from Morley though, although to be honest it was such a team effort that no-one gets it this week. | Esprit 3 - 2 Chingford Athletic Res Div 1 Chingford Res fell to their first league defeat of the season blowing the title race wide open and showed that just fielding 11 players is not going to be enough to win the league. With 8 players missing it was going to be an up hill battle from the start. Both teams started very slugishly but it was Esprit who stuck first with a mistake at the back leading to a strike from 5 yards managing to beat 6th choice keeper Manicom. It was fiarly tedious football until the game was changed by the sending off of Okan on 35 minutes for abusive language and a 2 footed tackle. Esprit were fairly poor with set peices and Chingford really should have made pay one of the several chances that went begging. Chingford in the end were more than happy to go into the break one down and the defence kept stong to enable them to re group going into the 2nd half. It was from one of Ryans long throws that Chingford were given a lifeline of a penality as Hurry was bundled over in the box which Ryan duley stepped up and converted. As soon as Chingford seemed to get back into their flow another blow was delt as Sandy fell badly and was unable to continue leaving Chingford to battle on for 40 minutes with just 9 men! It was only a matter of time before Esprit hit back and that they did. Chingford had to go out all guns blazing and just didnt want to sacrifice a league point changing to a somewhat unconvential 3 2 3 formation which just meant they were pratically sitting in the Esprit half for the majority and it finally paid off when Pearce flicked on again from a long throw and somehow managed to bundle home. But the lead was short lived as Esprit hit chingford with a taste of their own medicine which an Esprit corner sailing over everyone including the GK for the day Manicom, who for some reason had a rush of blood to the head thinking he was back playing centre back, missing the ball totally and with an Espirt palyer on hand to somehow bundle home. Chingford were not done yet and managed to hit the woodwork twice in the last 5 minutes. But it was all too little too late. A mention must go out to all the players who battled in the 2nd half, no one moaned at all and everyone battled for each other and gave grit and determination where needed, not something that would be seen in other teams. It is always going to be tough playing in a whole half with 9 men but we showed great team spirit to do so. It has been 2 games now where we have struggled to get a squad together and it now show that the title is not ours YET and if people dont make the effort then the squad will suffer as a whole. |
