About the club...
Chingford Athletic Football Club was formed as recently as the summer of 2007 and we currently compete in the Ilford & District Premier Division following last season's promotion. We were brought together from a few local teams and once we had our place in the league for the 2007/2008 season assured, we were looking forward to building a long and illustrious history for the club. Now, after a comfortable mid-table finish in our first season, and two cup semi-final appearances and promotion in our second season, the club are looking to push forward on all fronts.
One of the main signs of this is that the upcoming 2009/2010 season will see Chingford field two men's teams, both in the Ilford & District League. To do this we have signed 33 players so the new season looks to be as busy as ever before for all involved.
Our second season was an improvement on the first and promotion was well deserved, but fell agonisingly short of collecting any silverware. This season we hope to go one better, and with everyone's hard work and support, there is no reason why this can't be achieved.

Chingford Athletic 0 - 5 Newham United East Ham Memorial Cup - QF Athletic faced up against a well-drilled and organised Newham side who were looking to continue their defence of the East Ham Memorial Cup in this quarter final tie. The pitch was just about classed as playable despite certain areas being pretty wet but the away side will be glad the game went ahead. In the early stages it was impossible to tell which side was from the Olympian League and which was from the Ilford & District as Chingford fought well and more than held their own against the team 1 league and 12 places above them. Set pieces looked like being the main route of an opener from the home side as several free-kicks and long throws were somehow cleared as well as the odd chance from Connor and Tharrett among others flashing just wide. However, despite the terrortorial advantage it was Newham that opened the scoring via route one with a long ball over the top which was cooly converted by their striker. The major turning point came after about 25 minutes when the Newham striker again raced clear and all centre back Nicholas could do was slide in but take man first and consequently saw red. This meant a formation change and left Connor as the lone striker, and he had a endless job of scrapping for any ball in order to try and carve out any chances for Chingford. A second goal from a corner meant Athletic went two down just before half time even though they had probably had double the amount of attempts at goal than the away team. The second half was always going to be about who got the first goal and despite a positive first ten minutes from Chingford it was Newham that scored again and effectively put the game beyond any doubt. The home side tried to battle bravely and still created a couple of half chances but by this time they were fighting a losing battle, and the extra man was now a major factor with several Athletic legs beginning to look heavy in the muddy conditions. Newham continued to soak up the pressure at the back without allowing any clear cut chances, again only set pieces looked to give Chingford any hope of scoring, and the visitors made the result look comfortable with two goals in the last ten minutes which meant the final winning margin was five, and despite a couple of superb saves from Chingford keeper Morley, it could have been more. However, had some early chances and a couple of big decisions gone Chingford's way, things could have been very different. There were definitely some positives to take from the game, none more so than Clarke and Abilio's fine performances in the centre of midfield, but also highlighted the harsh facts that you have to take your chances when they are presented at the higher level. It was just a shame that the day ended with some in-house arguements which will get the team nowhere. | St Francis Res 1 v 2 Chingford Athletic Res Spartak Cup QF So the cup run continues………. This week Chingford Athletic Reserves played at Wanstead Flats against St Francis in the quarter final of the Spartak Cup. Chingford struggled with players with Okan letting the team down at late notice. The team subsequently started with the bare eleven with one of their keepers up top with Collins. Chingford started badly and were very slow out of the blocks. There was initially a lack of effort across the field and it took a goal to shake the team up. The goal came shortly before the midway point in the first half as St Francis broke the stalemate. Chingford sparked into action as the defence began to play football from the back and Kierans began pressing forward inspiring a number of Chingford attacks. Eventually Chingford forced a free kick around the left side of the St Francis box. Costis swung a high ball into the box that wrong footed the kicker who parried the ball into his own net. The goal was what Chingford needed and the team quickly came out of their shell. The half ended 1-1. The second half started well for Chingford as they began to dominant the second half. Chingford repeatedly hammered the St Francis goal as Kierans continued to press forward into the St Francis box. Eventually a number of Chingford passes in and around the St Francis box led to Ulasan slotting the ball past the keeper and into the back of the net. All Chingford had to do was defend their goal and keep their shape for less than ten minutes. Kierans and Sandy did there job and held the centre. Credit must go to both players who dictated the game for Chingford. Once again Sandy defended well and through great positioning and bags of enthusiasm he allowed Kierans to attack. Kierans stood up to the challenge and lead the Chingford offensive from the midfield. The combination of the two was what got Chingford back into the game and sustained the victory. Chingford now progress to the next round against Clockwork as their aspirations of being League and Cup winners continue. Both midfielders deserve the title of Man of the Match this week but the title goes to Kierans for his efforts going forward and his enthusiasm and work rate on and off the ball.
